October's Reading in Heels sub box

October seems to be getting away from me - it's absolutely speeding by and I haven't even had a chance to share this month's Reading in Heels box! This one has been a massive hit for me, and I just seem to be getting more and more surprised at just how much they manage to cram into one box.

The loose theme for this month seems to be relaxing: there's tea, a face mask, lavender oil for the bath. I am READY.

The book

Sympathy by Olivia Sudjic is this month's chosen novel, and I'm pretty hyped about it. A contemporary dystopian read, Sympathy explores the benefits and pitfalls of our interconnectivity through online worlds. It follows the main character, Alice Hare who moves from England to New York. There she meets Mizuko Himura, who thinks their introduction to one another is a chance encounter. It was anything but this. Believing Mizuko is her 'internet twin', Alice has sought him out, and as their physical worlds begin to entwine, lies and secrets start to spill out ...

I love a good dystopian novel, and I've never read one that focuses on the impact of social media and the ability to 'stalk' people online, so I'm pretty excited to see how this plays out.

The goodies

I haven't got any close ups of these (I mean, close ups that I was happy with if I'm honest), but there were a selection of Heath & Heather teas in the box: two blackurrant, and two green teas with coconut. I love the little teas that come in every box, and as a big green tea fan, these are a winner for me.

The blackcurrant and strawberry Nordic winegums from Wally and Whiz are hands-down my favourite snack that's ever come in one of these boxes. I could eat them all day every day if it wasn't for the fact that I love them to so much I want to savour them as a treat. They're completely vegan and I had no idea from the taste or texture as gummies.

Aaaand now for the beauty. The spacemask was like nothing I've ever tried before. It's almost like a sleeping mask that starts heating up on its own as soon as you take it out of the packet. I wasn't the biggest fan of this (it seemed to accentuate my already pretty heavy eye bags), but it was relaxing whilst I had it on, and seemed to relieve some pressure from my headache.

The final treat in the box was some de-stressing muscle bath oil from Aromatherapy Associates. Lavender's one of my favourite scents, and it features quite heavily in this, alongside rosemary, black pepper and ginger. It was a perfect addition to a post-yoga bath and is something I'm treasuring to use when I really need a little help relaxing.

I've just ordered next month's box and I know it's going to perk me right up when it arrives next month!

  1. the book sounds so interesting. I've been vegetarian for like 2 years now and haven't tried any vegan gummy sweets, so these sound interesting. the bath oil sounds really relaxing, especially because its lavender! lovely post.

    1. Kudos to you for being veggie! I'm trying to eat less meat but still haven't managed to make the leap. The bath oil was so fab
