My 2017 New Years Resolutions: a six month update

My 2017 New Years Resolutions: a six month update
I'm big into New Years Resolutions. I love the New Year. It's a time to think about everything you've accomplished in the past year (almost always more than you thought you had), and to think about where you'd like to be in one year's time. This year I've decided to do a lil six month reset, and consider what I'm doing well with, and what I really want to work on. Back in January, I wrote this post on what I wanted to achieve in 2017, so it's time to take a peek at how things are going.

One thing that I mentioned briefly, but didn't have as a key goal was to improve my blog photography. Today I've borrowed one of the photos I used in the OG post in January and it's really emphasised to me that there is a definite change in the quality of my images.

Anywho, here's a quick run-through of how I'm doing with my main goals:

Start learning to drive: I've now had six hours of driving lessons and I'm really enjoying them. This is something that I'm so proud of myself for doing. I've now learnt how to start the car, do left hand turns, right hand turns, and get all the way to fourth gear. We've tackled a couple of roundabouts, I stopped at my first ever traffic light and even went up to 60mph! I'm so pleased with my progress and excited for more lessons.

Save £1000. This one isn't going brilliantly. I headed to Florida in April and tried my utmost to save £1000 for it. I put every penny of my tips into a jar for three months and I was so proud to have saved £450. But, it wasn't even half of what I wanted to save. Living away from home on a minimum wage job is hard but I'm hoping I might manage to put something away by the end of the year.

Do more travelling: with my sister; on a city break; with my partner; in the UK. I thought I'd lump these all together to chat about because they come under the same umbrella. I feel like I really haven't travelled as much this year as I would have liked, but I have had some pretty cool adventures. I obvs visited Florida, which was a massive trip for me. My sister, boyfriend and I went on a day trip to Bath just last week and I adored it. I think if I ever moved to a city it would have to be Bath. I fell in love with it.
The three of us are heading to Brighton in a couple of weeks for my sister's 21st, and I'm so excited. It's just a few days' break, but I'll be ticking off another place in my UK travel bucket list. We're also hoping to head to Budapest later in the year for a weekend city break, and I really hope we get the chance!

Get a job with better hours: I'm trying so hard with this one, but job hunting is an upwards struggle and it's taking far longer than I ever anticipated.

Blogging stats goals. I set myself a goal of hitting 2.5K Instagram followers, 4K Twitter followers, 100 Youtube subscribers and 1000 bloglovin followers. I won't lie, most of these are looking *pretty* unlikely if I'm being honest with myself. I've been stuck around pretty much the same number on Instagram for months now, and I'm totally going to blame the algorithm for that. I've gained 150 followers so far this year, which I'm pretty disappointed by. My Twitter count has gone up by 500 followers, which is amazing, but still quite far off where I would like it to be!
After all the Bloglovin drama, with the theft of pageviews, a lot of people have turned away from it, and I've definitely noticed my following count slowing from that point on, but I have managed to gain 100 followers so far this year.
My Youtube goal is (surprisingly for me) actually the one I'm most likely to hit! I started the year on just over 40 subs and I hit 80 quite recently. I'm really proud of this one, even though the number seems tiny.

Do more yoga: yoga honestly makes such a difference to my mental health, but I always forget that when I'm feeling lazy. In June I did more yoga than I had done for the past year combined and I felt incredible for it, but my effort has slipped away in the past couple of weeks. I'm determined to get into some kind of routine with it soon, so I have high hopes of achieving this goal!

Did you set yourself any goals for 2017? How are they going?

  2. You're doing really well with your goals! So don't beat yourself up. When we set ourselves these goals at the start of the year, we don't know what the year has in store for us. So sometimes we can't always meet the goals we set for ourselves. x www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x

  3. Sounds like you've made a good start on most of them - I bet you'll hit most of those targets by the end of the year!
I'm struggling with bloglovin followers now too, but I've had about 120 this year so far, so fingers crossed! :) Tania Michele xx
