LUSH Kinky Hair Oil Treatment Review

I have a confession to make: I'm a serial LUSH hoarder. This particular product has actually been sat in my bathroom cupboard since I went on my pre-Christmas rampage in November. Yep, November. It was one of those things where I was so excited to use it that I wanted to save it and ended up not using it (please tell me other people do this?!).

I was SUPER excited to use this Kinky hot oil treatment and *spoiler alert* it broke my heart a little.
I'm a big fan of hair masks and am totally prepared to look like a bit of a nutter with gunk in my hair and spend a bit longer shampooing it, but this really took the biscuit. The texture of it was really weird when I was applying it, and both my housemate and boyfriend commented on how the texture and colour made it look as though *ahem* there was a male fluid in my hair, and *hint*, it wasn't pee. Honestly once you saw it you could not un-see it.

But, I persevered with the goal of having soft and controlled curls. In the end, I shampooed THREE TIMES and conditioned my hair in an attempt to get it out. Now, for a girl who likes to whizz in and out of the shower as quickly as possible this was basically torture. Dreaming of mermaid hair, I dried it and found there were STILL lumps and smears of the treatment all over my scalp, ARGH. But, determined not to wash my hair twice in one day - seriously, just no - I waited until the morning and I finally managed to rid my hair of all the oil after another two rounds of shampooing. Yep, it took five goes to get it all done.

However, after this wash my hair felt absolutely incredible. As I've been stripping the ends recently, I've really been focusing on nourishing my hair to make it as soft and moisturised as I can. This made my hair feel unbreakable, and really helped my curls to stay pronouced without being frizzy. Ultimately, it did what it said on the tin, but I'd much rather use H'Suan Wen Sua, which still tops my list of favourite hair treatments!

Have you tried Kinky? What did you think?

  1. I was thinking about buying this the other day but it doesn't sound all that great in terms of it being easy, it definitely doesn't sound worth the trouble tbh! I'm really lazy and probably would get fed up of I had to wash my hair five times just to get it out lol, but I'm glad your hair felt soft after even tho it was a struggle getting it out!! I do love Lush, and I'm really wanting to try more of their hair care range!! Xxx

  2. I have never tried a hair oil treatment before so I would really like to give one a go, although perhaps I won't start with this one due to how long it took to get it out! x

  3. I have never tried any hair products from Lush. My hair really needs some treatment but I think I will pick a different product. I'm too impatient to wash my hair so many times in a row.

  4. That sounds like so much work! Thanks for saving us all the time, lol. And by the way, I TOTALLY hoard products because I'm so excited about them, and then I'm afraid to use them because they'll be gone. How crazy are we?!

  6. I've never tried anything from Lush lol! The smell of the shop puts me off going in there! But this looks good (apart from taking ages to wash out) but as long as it does the job I guess that's all that matters! Xx

Your hair looks in amazing condition so obviously it did work well, but sounds like such a stressful experience I'm not quite sure I can put myself through that!
