Pre-lockdown charity shop book haul roundup!
Yes I've been meaning to write this post for literally months, but I'm so excited to start heading out to charity shops now to hunt down bookish treasure that I couldn't not do this little roundup. I bought these all on my very last pre-lockdown trip to the shops and I was SO excited to find all of these great books second hand!
1.) The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
Every time I've seen this spoken about online, it has been absolutely raved about. Set in Georgia initially, it follows the story of a slave girl named Cora who becomes involved in the underground railroad. It's meant to be incredibly well-researched and historically accurate, and I think this will be a very tough but interesting read.
2.) Christmas in the Snow by Karen Swan
And here we have a totally different vibe. Karen Swan writes great winter romances I think (I'm not so much of a fan of her summer ones) and I'm excited to read another one by her. Set part in London, part in Switzerland, this is about a woman who must choose face her past trauma to sort out her current problems. These books are usually nice easy reads where I get genuinely swept up in the romance, and I'm going to save this to read in December.
3.) The Ask and the Answer by Patrick Ness
This is the second book in the Chaos Walking trilogy. Todd and Viola are separated, and with mounting pressure growing on Todd in his resistance against the current way of life, he's left with a whole lot of questions, and not a lot of answers. I read and loved this trilogy as a teenager, and I can't wait to re-read it.
4.) The Refugees by Viet Thanh Nguyen
This is one that I'm very excited to read. It's about the varied experiences of immigrants, and has several refugees at its heart, looking at their hopes and dreams, culture shock and clashes. I sometimes find a collection of short stories, or multiple perspectives like this a bit hard to get my head around, but I've got high hopes for this.
5.) Frankissstein by Jeanette Winterson
I've been meaning to read this ever since it was longlisted for the Booker Prize in 2019. I'm a big Frankenstein fan, and this modern take on it sounds so interesting. The main character Ry is a young transgender doctor who's falling in love with a doctor working around AI. In a world dominated by new medical advances, the book looks at the megalomania of human beings in constantly striving for progress.
6.) Find Me by Andre Aciman
I've got Call me by Your Name sat on my shelves, and I just haven't delved in yet because I'm worried it won't live up to the hype. This is another love story book, but this time with a multi-generational aspect and multiple romances.

I'm jealous! There is... Basically no where to buy books in my town, and we're on our second lockdown right now so I can't go anywhere, anyway. I am in serious need of a good book. Some of these sound really interesting!
