Focusing on doing nothing: a millenial's nightmare

Focusing on doing nothing: a millenial's nightmare

I'm feeling completely overwhelmed at the moment. I've been ill, I'm breaking out all the time, I'm tired and grumpy and I've basically been pushing myself way too hard in the past few months. I've been ignoring my body when it's told me it's tired because 'omg if Zoella took as many breaks as I do she wouldn't be Zoella'. Well that's not entirely what goes through my head, but you get the gist.

I'm constantly in awe of all these super women and #girlbosses out there, who are somehow raising three children, creating a daily vlog, Instagramming, writing three blog posts a week and oh yeah, they've got a full time job too (this isn't a dig at anyone in particular just FYI). And whilst I'm all for supporting everyone, I mean, if you're doing that then seriously, you go girl. But, it makes me look inward and ask why the fuck I'm struggling to do half as much.

Why does going to work and then maybe writing a blog post afterwards tire me out? Why can't I be on the ball 6am to 10pm creating content and being ~productive~?! I've finally come to realise that it's because I shouldn't be. I shouldn't feel as though I have to be endlessly productive, but I've got more on a post on that here.

So this weekend instead of being an absolute beast who gets so much done (but is still disappointed because you know, you could always do more right?! Who needs sleep?), I'm going to force myself to take time out. This is something that I've always struggled with. But I'm going to spend a few hours binge watching Jane the Virgin, I'm going to read a book or two, I'm going to have the longest soak in the bath, I'm even going to fill out all those Wreck this style journals that I love doing but avoid because it 'wastes my time'.

This weekend I'm going to listen to my body and my mind. It might not be the most productive four days of my life, but it also might reset the balance on things, and help me to actually find a way to be content whilst producing content, you know?

    1. I really think that there's so much pressure piled on to all of us all the time that a lot of us feel the same! Sending love

  2. I feel you, it's exhausting to feel like that too! Even if you're not doing what you consider to be productive you have to remember even when you're only watching or reading something you're still expanding your knowledge and working on yourself! x

I completely get how you feel. I often wonder how on earth people manage to work full-time, post new blog posts regularly, have a clean home, cook, exercise, etc etc. I get home from work and I'm like maaaan I'm tired, but sorta feel bad if I just sit and chill rather than getting on with something else.

I'm a fellow Jane The Virgin fan - absolutely LOVE it! How far along are you?

    1. I really admire the people that can do it, but I just know now that I can't! I'm only on the first season, but it's great so far

  4. I can relate to this as well. I always feel guilty for taking too many break on ONE project while there are other people who can do 10x times as much in one day. ♥

    1. I's really hard not to, and as much as I love social media I definitely think it makes it harder not to compare yourself

Great idea! I think we all feel this pressure to be always on, always being productive and doing something worthwhile with our time. But we all need time to just do nothing and completely relax. Hope it helped. x www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x

    1. There really is a lot of pressure to do so, and it's just not okay, and I think it's so important to recognise that down time is necessary
