2018 goals and a look back over 2017

2018 goals and a look back over 2017

2018 goals and a look back over 2017
I absolutely adore reading everyone's posts on what they're hoping to achieve in the next year, and I love writing my own too. This is honestly one of my favourite posts to write each year, and it's so helpful in reminding me of where I want to be heading, what I want to work on and so on.

So, let's recap on 2017. It had some major ups and downs. I travelled to Florida, and had the most amazing time there, but I also struggled to find a new job. I've wept over Donald Trump's tweets and had a bittersweet sense of justice as all the #metoo stories came out, and more more men were finally held accountable for their actions. 2017 has been rubbish for a whole lotta people on a whole lotta bases, but there have been some glimmers of hope out there.

2017 mental health

Overall, this year was pretty epic for my mental health, even if it didn't feel like it at times. I've cut my medication down by half. This was incredibly tough, but I feel so much better for it now. I finally went back to full time work after a few years away from it. Whilst I found the routine pretty tough, I feel stable enough with this, and I'm beyond proud of myself. This was also my second year of being completely self-harm free, and I finally feel as though I'm properly in recovery.

2017 challenges

The biggest challenge for me this year was probably quitting my job. My co-workers were the only people I knew (other than my partner) in the town I moved to last year, so leaving them behind really tested my courage. I also went kayaking for the first time in years, saw alligators close up in Florida and started learning how to drive. I've really pushed myself this year, and it's done me the world of good.

2017 blogging

Although things haven't changed with my blog as much as I would like this year, there really are some things that I'm hella proud of. I bought some soft lights so I could take photos in the evening, and my photo quality has improved so much. I collaborated with both Penguin books and LUSH, which is basically my dream. I am so far off hitting the majority of my numerical targets, but you know what they say about it not being all about numbers ... Anywho, let's talk stats for the minute. I wanted to hit 2.5K Insta followers, 4K on twitter, 1K on bloglovin and 100 Youtube subscribers. I was feeling ambitious I know. I've ended the year on 2,300 Insta followers, 2.7K on twitter, just under 700 on bloglovin and 104 Youtube subs. I'm beyond shocked that Youtube is the one I managed to get to, and I've got some really exciting videos planned to boost that number even further! This lil section is more for me to look back on that anyone else, and I'm so ready to see how it compares to next year's.

How did I do with my 2017 goals?

This post is going to end up hella long, so I'll *try* to keep this short and sweet:

1.) Start learning to drive. I've kinda bossed this one. I passed my theory a few weeks ago, and I've been learning to drive for a few months now.

2.) Save £1000. This totally did not happen.

3.) Get to 10K total followers. Another one that was a bit of a fail, but I am at 7000 now, which I'm pretty proud of.

4.) Get a job with better hours. I finally got my dream job back at the end of August and I couldn't be happier with finally having my weekends and evenings back!

5.) Get to 100 Youtube subscribers. I'm SO proud of this one.

6.) Do more yoga. Technically yes, but I still did hardly any at all.

7.) Live every moment in America fully. I stopped blogging whilst I was away and totally busted out of my comfort zone a whole bunch of times.

8.) Go on a city break with my partner. We took my sister to Brighton for her 21st in August. Although it wasn't exactly what I had in mind, we still went away for a quick city break!

9.) Stick to a good self care routine. This one definitely needs a lot of work.

I'm so so proud of how many of these I actually achieved. I try to set myself really tough goals each year so that I work incredibly hard to achieve them; I can't believe I managed to tick off 6 of them!

2018 goals

It's time to finally set down my goals for the next year. I'm feeling incredibly motivated to totally rock this year, and keep these as reminders for what I want to do:

1.) Save £1000. I'm keeping this one because I want to prove to myself that I can actually save. Plus I want to start actually saving for a house and all that jazz (yes, this is terrifying).

2.) Hit 10K total followers. I really believe I can do this in 2018, and I'm going to work my butt off to get there. I'd love to get to 5K twitter followers, 3K Instagram followers and 1000 bloglovin followers.

3.) Do more yoga. This is for self care and self love. Yoga makes me feel incredible, but I find it so hard to motivate myself.

4.) Fundraise for BCRT. The Bone Cancer Research Trust is something that's really close to my heart, and I want to dedicate time this year to raising money for it.

5.) Pass my driving test. I want to do this SO BADLY, and I feel that bit closer to it now that I've passed my theory.

6.) Travel abroad. We haven't got any travel plans for the year yet, so hopefully this goal will help me get my butt into gear and book something.

7.) Pass my six month probation at work. I love my job more than any other job I've had before and it will be absolutely soul-destroying if I don't get through this.

8.) Declutter the basement. We're moving in April, and I desperately do not want to bring everything we've got stored down there with us.

9.) Come off my antidepressants completely. This is probably going to be the hardest thing on this list, and it's going to take a while to do safely.

10.) Hit 250 Youtube subs. This seems like a tiny number, but for me it is massive.
