The Perfect Valentine's Day for an Introvert
My own company is my favourite company most of the time, but I like to make some exceptions. Valentine's Day is something that in the past I've found truly pressure-filled. It's been all about seeing everyone's gifts on social media and feeling overwhelmed, and dressing my best to go out for a meal to somewhere I've never been before.
This year we've done things differently, and it's the best Valentines I've had in so long. We shared cards and little gifts this morning in bed. My boyfriend moved away from traditionally 'romantic' things to something that meant so much for me. For a couple of months now I've really wanted some fancy jars to put my baking ingredients in to neaten up our cupboards, but I haven't been able to justify buying them on a financial basis (aka I've been poor AF). So this morning I opened up a batch of Kilner jars and it was the most thoughtful gift I could think of. It's something tiny that wouldn't mean much to others, but it meant so much to me.
This evening we've stayed in, and I've loved it. There was no pressure to do anything outside of my comfort zone or have to engage with other people (the dream). Yesterday we picked up M and S's dine in for 2 for £20 on Valentines meal deal. I came home from work and we whipped up a three course meal together, chatting about our days. It wasn't some kind of dream world, I mean there was still a massive stack of washing up, but it was my ideal Valentine's Day.
As the evening progresses, we've moved to the sofa ready for some Netflix, whilst I type this up and feel happier than I have done on the last few Valentines, because we finally spent it the way that suits us, not the way that is supposed to suit everyone. My introverted heart is full.

Perfect! You should definitely do what you both want to on Valentine's Day, not what you feel you ought to. Chris and I spent it the same way we spend every Wednesday evening; at the pub with our friends and their young kids. Not exactly romantic, but we had fun and enjoyed ourselves and that's what really matters isn't it? x www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x
ReplyDeleteI think we really should! It definitely is what matters - Valentines should be all about doing what you want, and you did exactly that
