October favourites and life update
November's finally here: the evenings are getting darker, the air is getting nippier and the 'C' word is starting to crop up more and more often.
October was quite an exciting month for me. Me and my boyfriend celebrated our five year anniversary (HOW has it been half a decade?!) by heading to the new Wagamamas in our town for a date night. I've never been to Wagas before but now I've fully got the bug and want to go there all the damn time.
The best thing about our anniversary though? My boyfriend bought tickets for us to see Mary Berry (aka my Queen) at the Chelt lit festival. I totally got to tick meeting one of my idols off my bucket list this month, so was hella happy. And yes, Mary Berry is an idol of mine. Fo real.
On to favourites we go - I *think* I might even manage to make this a fairly short post with minimal rambling. Maybe.
Two beauty products stuck out a mile for me this month as absolute must-haves. The first is Korres' olympus tea foaming cleanser* which I've spoken about in a lot of detail here. It keeps my skin from getting too oily and strikes a fab balance between being sensitive enough for my skin and getting tough makeup off. The dream.
The other lifesaver has been Soap & Glory's Rushower. I've never understood the need for dry shampoo but now that I've got this I don't think I could do without it. It smells amazing and gives my hair a much-needed boost when I don't feel like washing it before work. As soon as this runs out I'll be straight down to Boots to repurchase a new bottle because I don't see myself not wanting to use it anytime soon.
I've been trying to really nail my routine at my new job (which still kinda makes me pinch myself), and Twining's apple and pear green tea has been holding me together, along with Rushower. If you're not a big fan of how bitter green tea can be, then this is a good one to go for because it's a little sweeter than normal green tea. I want to drink it all day, and the caffeine in it doesn't hurt too much either.
I've also been trying to get my home in order. We've got another six months in this house, and I want to make it somewhere that is tidy and that I'll genuinely be gutted to leave. I want to love it more than I already do. So it's kinda lucky that we got a copy of Mary Berry's new book 'Mary's Household Tips & Tricks' at her talk. And she'd signed 900 books for everyone attending. What a cutie. It's taught me how to defrost a freezer - she even has a flow chart for that one - , how to organise my food cupboard and how to arrange things in my fridge. Honestly this book is adulting goals.
Finally I actually have a lil fashion section. As things have gotten colder I've been wanting to wrap up, especially as I walk to work. I've sneakily used my fave new Primark scarf as the background to some of the pictures for this post, because there's nothing more Winter-y than tartan is there? It's a big ol' blanket scarf that I've got so much use out of so far.
Along with this, the beige jumper with the massive bell sleeves that you can see poking out in the pictures has been helping me stay snuggled up at my desk. The sleeves add a little bit of pizzazz to the fairly plain jumper, and it makes me feel ten times more sassy than normal.
